Mediterranea Biotecnologie is part of COST – European Cooperation in Science and Technology

Mediterranea Biotecnologie has been selected as a partner by COST - European Cooperation in Science and Technology, to contribute, with 65 other partners from 26 different countries to the Pimento Action/Project.

The COST, is a funding organisation for research and innovation networks. Its actions aim to facilitate and connect research initiatives across Europe and in other countries around the world, enabling researchers and innovators to grow their ideas, in any field in science and technology, by sharing them with their colleagues. The COST Actions are four-year bottom-up networks useful for promoting research, innovations and careers. The aim of the Pimento action/project The project, among other things, will conduct in-depth research and a census on traditional fermented foods, in order to gain an in-depth understanding of both nutritional and food safety aspects.

The know-how and innovative spirit of Mediterranea Biotecnologie, has been recognised by COST as invaluable in developing this project. To date, fermented foods (FF), although relevant in terms of nutrition, sustainability, cultural heritage, territorial diversity and of broad consumer interest, they lack of scientific guides scientific guides on the benefits and risks to human health.

The challenge for Pimento and its constituent community is to bridge this gap.

In today's world, it is essential that research is interconnected, interdisciplinary, collaborative and data-intensive. By focusing on networking activities, COST Actions help to advance knowledge and strengthen research and development by creating opportunities for researchers to meet and discuss ideas and complex problems, which can thus be addressed in a targeted manner, across a wide geographical area.
